Variped is a live-attenuated varicella (chickenpox) vaccine indicated for active immunization of children (from 12 months), adolescents, and susceptible adults. Each single 0.5 mL dose contains a standardized titre of live attenuated varicella-zoster virus (Oka strain) and is supplied as a lyophilized vial with sterile diluent for reconstitution. The vaccine is usually given as two doses — the first at 12–15 months and the second at least 3 months later (or per national schedule). It is administered subcutaneously and stimulates durable humoral and cellular immunity to reduce incidence and severity of varicella disease, hospitalizations, and complications such as encephalitis and pneumonia. Variped is suitable for routine immunization programmes, catch-up schedules, and pre-exposure vaccination of high-risk groups. It has a well-established safety profile; common adverse events are mild and transient (local soreness, low-grade fever, rash). The product must be stored in the cold chain and protected from freezing. Supplied in single-dose presentations, Variped is a practical option for clinics, hospitals, and public health programmes.
